mini PSA: colors and contrast in BGs
this has been mentioned in many background tutorials, but I figure it couldn't hurt to spread a bit of friendly advice since a lot of my watchers watched me for my pixel BGs!
a friend pointed this out to me a while ago and my BGs have improved by about 200% since i got more serious about watching my values and contrast
like, look at these old BGs. they look okay, except they're about 90% comprised of "the mid-tones of meh". the dark areas are not very dark, and the light areas that should be standing out are getting lost.
then compare these BGs:
wow, much contrast, so drama! the areas of light and dark are well-defined. aspects of the pie
I was inspired by KizuNova (https://www.deviantart.com/kizunova) to write this journal actually haha
I am a huge perfectionist. It might not be super apparent for all of the blebs I do, but I do a lot of bleb pictures because they allow me to be less perfect. If there's no rules to follow to begin with, how can I break them, right! And while this affects my whole life and caused me insane amount of anxiety due to me being anything but perfect and failing constantly on simple matters, I'm gonna focus more on how this has affected my art through the years. Maybe this'll help someone else struggling with the same problems!
When it comes to art, I wasn't always perfectionist. Far
I'd like to share a mantra from artist Jake Parker, for those who struggle with their artworks: 'Finished Not Perfect.'
It's a good mantra to remind myself everytime I'm struggling to finish a piece of illustration that I've started. I hope I can do the same for my personal comic projects that I'm reluctant to continue when I become indecisive or fickle minded with the source material.
It is important to expect nothing, to take every experience, including the negative ones, as merely steps on the path, and to proceed.

Why I'm Addicted To Art Journals by CoolKaius, journal
Why I'm Addicted To Art Journals
I currently have 11 art journals.
#PostThisBook And My 1 Page At A Time Together Booklet Are Not Shown. It is easy to see I have a problem.
But I collect art journals for many reasons.
Why I use art journalsThey inspire me when I need ideas. These books are full of prompts to be completed inside the book.
They encourage me to do art I probably wouldn't have done otherwise.
Completing each book is a big art challenge.
The prompts get me to interpret them in my own unique way.
And most importantly, they get me to experiment.
Experimenting is something I find to be extremely important in art.
how they benefited meFrom September 2015 to
Many people asked me about which sites I use (or used) to learn and keep myself updated about art. So I decided to make a list with art websites that offer tutorials, advice, or other content that inspired me. Of course there are many other individual artists that inspire me greatly, but I've tried to keep this list to the ones that provide the community of advice and tutorials (otherwise I could go on forever).
I hope you enjoy it ^__^

ART BLOCK!!
This is the most common name given to that certain time where artists just sit there and become unproductive against their own will. Yes... against their own will! Artists have art block and writers have writer's block... it's still the same thing, though. It must be avoided at all costs, but once it arrives, it doesn't leave until it is satisfied of seeing your misery. Minutes... Days... Weeks... Even up to months! Art block claim
Hello everyone! It's been an awful ammout of time since I last wrote a journal, lately I just do stuff like features, giveaways, memes and etc, but today I feel like bringing back the old good journals I used to write.
Today I wanted to focus on tips to battle art block since... well, I see so many blocked artists lately and my friends get upset over it... also these are tips I actually use to avoid block, this will NOT guarantee you not getting an art block but I do hope this is helpful.
Art block... that annoying moment when you're drawing (or even if you are not) and all of your ideas fade away, as if you were unable to draw without havi
